Funny but true
Some of the funniest mistranslations found on the web and many of them are from airports:
In Copenhagen “We take your bags and send them in all directions”. I know I’ve never been to Uzbekistan, but my bags once did.
Or how about this gem from a Spanish airline: “Bags to be used for sickness, or to gather remains.” Presumably they weren’t too confident in the pilot’s ability to land the passengers safely.
And lastly my favourite example of unintendedly amusing translation. From the Soviet Weekly: There will be a Moscow Exhibition of Arts by 15,000 Soviet Republic painters and sculptors. These were executed over the past two years.
Sometimes there’s never a truer word said in mistranslation.
